    Car dies when Clutch pressed
    86 Accord LX
    The car starts fine and idles great but when I press down the clutch the rpms drop dramatically and the car dies. It started happening intermittently ( around when I was adjusting the carb to get the idle correct) and now it happens always.

    What would cause this?

    You probably didn't adjust the carb right. Your not in the idle system, so when the clutch master cylinder puts a load on the engine the carb isn't in the idle system, so it dies.

    If you want to know how to adjust the carb without ANY problems using propane enrichment holler. In order to do it, you have to cut the torch head off a simple torch and attach an on/off ball or gate valve to a line that can attach to the car's vacuum system.

    You must have the ability to regulate and turn the propane on and off independently. You also need a tachometer.

    I had a Holley Economaster carb on a 73 GM car and that was the ONLY way to adjust it.

    This method allows you to get the throttle plates in the idle position.

    Hmm, that sounds fairly complicated and that their may be the minute possibility that I could blow myself up along with this poor honda.
    But, I've done all kinds of other with this damn car why not one mor ething :-P
    How much do you thnk it'll run me for the whole process? Tachometer and all.

    You won't blow yourself up.

    The parts needed are:
    1. Inductive tach - Google search about $40
    2. Tubing cutter - plumbing dept or hacksaw and file
    3. Torch head BNZJT680 or 81 Tool Brands Sold by DenLors Tools Bernzomatic (This will be cut before the air holes (home depot, hardware store)
    4. Gas valve - home depot
    5. Possible reducing couplings - auto store
    6. Vacuum hose for carb port (usually the one you removed for the air cleaner and hose to fit over torch tubing
    6. Barb fittings - auto store
    7. Hose clamps aren't necessary

    High estimate < $100

    Cut off end of torch head below air holes. Attach a length of tubing to the hose and to a barb fitting and to the gas valve. Attach another length from the gas valve to the intake port of the carb. This line can be the longest.

    Instructions:

    1. attach to carb. Turn on gate valve
    2. Adjust reguator valve for max RPM
    3. Turn off propane - There should be little change in RPM

    Repeat 2 & 3 by playing with idle speed and mixture screws UNTIL max rpm = idle rpm.

    What's happening is that you are making the fuel mixture richer and the carb should maintain idle speed. The idle adjust changes the position of the throttle linkage and the throttle linkage position determines the idle system. So, with the enrichment method, you'll get there. The benefit will be is that you will pass inspection too without having a CO analyizer.
