Slander causing me my job, and my children's home
    Hello.

I work in the education community, a small community as a service provider of speech services for children. I go to many different schools and work with many different teachers, parents, and children. Recently I visited a school where there was a new teacher there. I had known this teacher previously from working in the same school as her a few years before. She asked me in front of many adults and children if I had slept with her husband because he said we had, and that he was the father of my 18 month old son. She also told me that according to him I am constantly calling him and harassing him. His mother has even verbally abused me on several occasions of which I never thought anything of because she's not completely "there" any way. So, now I have teacher, parents, and persons that I supervise asking me about this. They have never said anything before. It has affected my professional out look, as I'm not taken seriously by those I supervise, or the parents of the children I work with. It has affected my home life as well. My eight year old son has come home asking me questions about this, and his father is threatening to take me back to court because of what has been said. (My baby's father is not involved in his life, and no one in the community knows who he is) So many people believe that what has been said is true. This sladerous comment has broken up a marriage already and threatens to cost me my job. Is there just cause to file a slander suit, not for any monetary restitution, but to withdraw publicly what has been said. And what steps can be taken to do this as well. Can I just file a slander complaint with the county sheriff?

Did you go right after it happened and file a complaint with the school and then with the school board. What has been their statement about this.

Next you don't have to withdraw from the public, you tell people it is so sad that this person is so ill thatthey believe this.

Now the question why would she believe this ? Was there something at one time?

    Hello orreos:

The court only awards monetary damages. So, not only do you have to prove the statement are NOT true, you have to prove exactly how much it cost you.

Very possibly the damages are yet accruing, so you may have to wait before you file suit. But, I certainly would run your situation by several attorney's who specialize in this form of law.

Orreos - I believe that if you check with a lawyer that you will find out that if you can prove that she has been doing this that it don't make any difference if it were true or not , that it is still SLANDER AND IT IS HURTING YOU <YOUR FAMILY<< AND JOB :: you will find out it don't have to be true or false . Good luck and get a lawyer ;;GOD BLESS :: F.B.E.
