Did we lose a day somewhere?
I have been baffled and troubled by this simple oversight since I took Spanish class in the 7th grade. The word in Spanish for Saturday "Sabados" translates literally to "Sabbath Day."
What troubles me, is when I look at a calendar... any calendar with the entire week listed.
Here is what the fourth commandment says... in my Bible
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
What day on your calendar is the seventh?
Why did God tell us to remember the Sabbath day?
Do you think He thought we might forget??
Do you think I just think too deeply about silly things?
Did we lose a day somewhere??
Why do we as Christians worship on Sunday, and not SABADOS?

Monday 1, Tuesday 2, wed. 3, thurs 4 , Friday 5, Saturday 6, Sunday 7... because it's the day you go to church... I'm not a christian so I don't really believe in god but I'm assuming if he is your god he didn't forget about you. No we did not lose a day.. there are 7 days in a week just like there has always been for as long as I have been alive.. Sabaods is Sunday...

Because of Jesus' resurrection (on Sunday/Domingo), in the Christian world Sunday has become the first day of the week and is placed first on a Western calendar.

See, I have asked that question to my Pastor as well.
That is the same answer he gave me.
It only confuses me further. I truly believe in Jesus... I have studied my Bible.
Thoroughly combed it over and over again trying to find an answe to that question.
That has been twenty years ago. I don't see anywhere in there where he said believe in me, and you don't need to keep my commandments. But a lot of christians will say to that that Jesus came to relieve us of the jewish law. That I don't argue with... no need for "kosher" foods etc... etc... and the Sabbath, to me, is linked in with those by some. I feel that is a mistake. The Sabbath was one of God's laws. Not the laws of man, which is what Jesus came to relieve us from.
I believe that even in the love of Jesus' sacrifice, he Remembered the Sabbath. Any christian preacher will tell you that he died on Friday... was dead (resting)Saturday, then rose on Sunday. I wish someone could point out to me the facts of the matter. Un arguable, undeniable truth, that I should keep Sunday holy. Maybe I missed somewhere where God froze time for a day?
I haven't thought about this for a while, but a question in another thread Has brought it back to my mind.

Trandy agrees: I don't deny that Jesus rose on Sunday. But God said remember the 7th day, and keep it holy.
The New Testament is the fulfilling of the Old Testament.
In the OT, God said remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. That was under the Law. The Law was negative, "thou shalt NOT."
The NT is under the Gospel. The Law has become only a guide; it cannot save us. The Gospel is celebrated when we obey Jesus' two great commandments--love God and love each other.
To celebrate the day of Jesus' resurrection, Christians have made Sunday God's holy day.

That's a tough question in this time of denominations and Christians who have trouble distinguishing between living under the Old Testament Law and in the freedom of the Spirit won by Christ"
Gal 5:1
5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
NIV
We, who walk by the Spirit, are not under the Law of Moses:
Rom 8:1-4
8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
NIV
Living according to the Spirit is much more difficult than living by the Law. It means having personal and continuous relationship with God each day and all day. Thus many prefer living under the law and judging others according to it.
As for the Sabbath Law: It does command that this be THE "worship day". It commands that we remember that God created the world in six day (no natural evolution allowed) and that we rest on that day.
We Christians, who live by the Spirit, are worshipping God all the time (hopefully) and we meet on the Day of our Lord's resurrection for our sins. That is, the day of the fulfillment of the gospel promised to Adam/Eve, Abraham, Isaac, Israel, etc. AND the end of the condemnation that the Law of Moses always brings:
Rom 14:5-6
5 One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
NIV
Luke 24:1-3
24:1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
NIV
Acts 20:7
7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.
NIV
1 Cor 16:1-3
Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. 2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
NIV
Christ is the fulfillment of the Law. But if you want to keep the Sabbath, take off every Saturday and don't you or your family (and helpers) do any work.
Matt 5:17
17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
NIV
AND Rom. 8 again... which tells us that the Law has been fulfilled in us.

The Sabbath was given to ISRAEL exclusively. Even if we were still under the LAW, which we are not, unless you are Jewish, the Sabbath commandment would not apply to you.
Now, God's ethical and moral law predates the 10 commandments which were given to Israel. Jesus made God's law applicable to the HEART of man, judging intent rather than actions. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, even to Jews, so don't worry about it. Every day is holy to God for the Christian.

I have pretty well conceded to every day is Holy for the past twenty years.
I ask forgiveness, and seldom foresake my days with my Lord.
If I do forget, things seem to go awry, which works as a reminder... eventually!!
I'm not worried, just curious. This curiosity has made me a pretty well read Christian.
See... further reading of your thoughts says that GOD"S ethical and moral law predates the ten commandments... as does the Sabbath.
I'm again Confused!!
I love Jesus, and have no doubts of his love for me. I am sure I am forgiven... even if I mistakenly work on a Saturday.

Rev. Dr Gade,
Thank you for this particular scripture
Rom 14:5-6
5 One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
You could have expanded somewhat and included the entire chapter. Very eye opening.
Thank you.
Galveston,
I apologize for my hastey remarks.
Thank you for your opinion.

One day in seven is to especially enjoy other people in his world and especially to spend time in worship and thanks to God Who has given man everything that is good. God did not want man to be a slave to work.
Whether one calls it the Sabbath or not, whether one observes that day on Saturday or Sunday or even Tuesday, it is to be a special day of rest and of thanksgiving.

[QUOTE=Trandy;1343708]Rev. Dr Gade,

Galveston,
Another eye opening word from Jesus:
Mark 2:23-28
23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?"
25 He answered, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions."
27 Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath . 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
NIV
We need to keep the Law given through Moses in its place. It's place for Christians is a place of less glory than the Gospel message which tells us that we are children of God and not slaves condemned by rules.
2 Cor 3:4-11
4 Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. 5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant- — not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11 And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!
NIV
Many of us went to Christian churches but were taught more about the Law and its consequences to those who err against it than about the love of God for those who become His children. That makes it difficult for us to move in the freedom to love others because we are constantly fearful of making mistakes and becoming again condemned by God. But God knew what each of us was like when He called us... and yet, He did call us to be His own.
Ps 103:13-14
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
NIV
