I am pregnant and I want my child's father to sign over his rights. I was wondering if I had to wait till the baby is born and if it will be a long process?

It won't be a long process because it won't be happening.

I moved this to the Family Law forum where it belongs. If you read the sticky note at the top of this forum or look through some of the hundreds of threads on this subject you will learn that it is almost impossible to get a court to grant a Termination of Parental Rights (TPR). Courts generally grant them only to clear the way for an adoption or if the parent represents a danger to the child.

So don't waste your time trying to get one. Why do you want one anyway?

As scott said he can't just sign over his rights nor can you just walk in the court house and take them. What you can do is file for support once the child is born so you have some financial help with raising the kid. If he doesn't want anything to do with visiting the child he won't have to visit no one will force that.

Yes, I know you want him to, but I will be blunt, you should not be having sex with people you don't want to be the father of your child.

First any legal action to rule on custody happens after he is born, He can not sign over his rights, and if he did, ( in the few cases it is allowed) child support would stlil have to be paid, so most fathers not that willing.

If you were married for a year to another man, and they wanted to adopt, then he can sign his rights away.
