    Honda Accord Idle Fluctuates
Hey all, I have a 1998 Honda Accord lX, 4 Cyl, AUTO. It only has about 70k original miles on it, and I pretty much baby this car.

    Problem:

Intermittently, like when I stop at a stop light or sign, the idle drops low almost to the point it seems like its going to stall, but doesn't stall. There is a really slight up and down fluctuation almost not noticeable. If you wait about, a minute or so, after the engine or computer seems to correct itself and the idle picks up and stabilizes.

This does not happen more or less at any temperature, but I live in FL so its rarely cold. I did notice that the rough or low idle seems to barely happen when I have the AC on though.

Any thoughts out there? It trips no codes at all. It does not hesitate to accel, nothing, just the idle drops really low and ever so slightly fluctuates.

Oh yeah - my friend that claimss to be a hinda guru told me it was the mass air sensor, and the dealership says that car doesn't have one...

Increase idle rpm--loosen the inside lock nut on the throttle cable, then take up on the outside adjusting nut. When warm, the car should idle around 700 rpm.

Here's a more detailed way to adjust idle rpm:

Check the specs for your Accord.

Thanks - I took a look at that cable adjustment already. There are two side by side, and one is for the cruis control. The other one which adjusts the idle appears to be pretty much already manually adjusted all the way out. I may be able to squeeze a few more threads up on it, but that's about it. I was thinking that there must be another problem if it is already manually adjusted up that far. I guess possibly the cable could be stretched, as it is ten years old, but with so little miles the wear and tear factor is minimal. I'll take a look at it tonight.

It may be adjusted too far out. Undue the inside lock nut (counter-clockwise) and take up on the outside adjusting nut (turn clockwise).

Also, ensure throttle cable has not come out of the throttle support bracket.
