I'm planning an in law suit in my basement (1br, studio apt with outside door, kitchen, full bath, and a common laundry)

The elevation of the main drain exit for the house is approx chest high in the basement (ground level outside), but once outside the drain immediately drops 6 feet and connects with the sewer line at 1/4"/foot slope.

I'd like to have a gravity drain and not use a pump system because a connection to the house's main drain is possible about 5 feet into the backyard before the drain connects with the sewer in the back yard.

I've done lots of plumbing for new bathrooms and kitchen remodels for myself and friends and feel comfortable doing all of this myself, I've just never done it through a concrete slab. Any suggestions on the layout of the piping and how to minimize the concrete I have to cut up?

As long as you are sure you have the elevation of pipes correct then I see no reason to use a pump system!

First, I would have you run 4" pipe here. Then I would have you install a 4" cleanout just outside the foundation (max. 18" off foundation) then pipe the rest as presented in my drawing below.

The washing machine requires a 24-36 inch tailpiece out of the 2" trap.

The underground plumbing requires 2" minimum for all pipes underground....For tub, you run 2" to tub, install tub trap full size 2" and then reduce to 1.5" out of the inlet of the trap to pick up the 1.5" tub waste asssembly.

All penetrations out of slab should be 2" long sweep elbows minimum.

No tee fittings underground... ALL WYE FITTINGS or wye/(1/8) combination fittings.

Install 2" cleanouts as come out of ground at kitchen sink and at washing machine.

The 2" vents from all this should connect together and then penetrate the roof or join full size 2" up in the attic to another 2" vent.

Run full size 4" to toilet. Branch off with 4"x2" wye for washing machine and a 4"x2" wye for the tub. Then branch off 4" with 4" x 2" wye for sinks.

Calling all vents! Calling all vents! Where are you? Go back and vent your system. Also you're discharging your washer into the lowest fixture in the system. Reroute the washer drain. It would helpful you sized the pipes. Will a permit be pulled for this remodel? Back to you, bTom

Correct me if needed, I should have from the toilet to exterior an uninterrupted 4" with everything else connecting to the toilet line with a 4"/2" Y? from the toilet 4"/2" Y fitting run 2" to the sinks, the tub, and the washer. The washer and sinks get a 2" cleanout as they come up out of slab. Venting will go up the 2 different interior walls no problem.

My main concern here is the swiss cheese I'm making of the slab, ei. If I end up getting a crack because I'm cutting to close to the exterior wall or something. Use a wet saw or an electric jack hammer?

The drawing I did very quickly in acad and wasn't able to get it to scale, I didn't put vents in the diagram because I forgot and because it shouldn't be too much trouble to connect to the existing kitchen sink vent upstairs. The slope in my drawing isn't very accurate either with the washing machine outlet sitting at bottom of slope! Well, I am planning on following codes, yes, because I want it to be safe and hassle free since I will be living here.
