    Estate issue
    A friend of the family died and made me beneficiary of an annuity/life insurance policy, when her estate is opened can the personal rep. come after me to pay her debts?

    Apparently you are the beneficiary which means you will come into a bit of money. Does she have an executor as well ?

    If this is from an insurance policy it does not go though probate or the estate if you are named on the policy.

    The estate can not come after life insurnce that is not part of the estate

    If this was an insurance product and you were named as beneficiary, then it passes to your outside the estate and is not subject to any collection efforts against the estate.
