I discovered a leak and isolated it to the drain that connects underneath the tub in the bathroom. I couldn't see all the way around, but felt it and it feels like the housing is cracked. Also, it appears that the gasket is off and there is a gap between it and the tub. I did replace the drain about 6 months ago, I'm not sure if maybe I cracked something underneath when I did. The tub has never leaked before in the 5yrs I've lived in the house. It is so bad now, when someone takes a shower the floor in the kitchen is soaked! How do I fix or repair the problem?

Hcarp1224 - You will have to replace the drain under the tub again. Use a rubber washer seal between tub and drain, Put plumbers putty under lip of drain piece inside tub , Using three screw drivers , Stick two in drain from inside tub,and the other one in between the other two . Now have someone to turn the bottom piece ,till it is snug then they hold and using screw drivers finish tighting the drain , don't over tighten ,and bust again Good luck ;F.B.E.

Pleas follow the following steps to repair a leaking tub drian.

1. Purchase the appropriate tools and equipment. For this repair, you'll need a tub drain wrench see the (Image). They are available at any hardware including Ace, Lowe's and Home Depot. You will also need plumber's putty and may be a new drain.

2. Use the tub wrench. Place the wrench into the hole, and using a counterclockwise motion, unscrew the drain flange and pull it up and out.

3. Prepare the drain flange for installation. Smear plumber's putty under the flange rim. In order to ensure a water tight seal, this is a necessary step.

4. Install the new drain. Using the tub wrench, twist the drain into the hole using a clockwise direction.

5. Turn on the water and allow your tub to partially fill up, and let drain check for leak if no leak your repair is successful. If not, try again using the previous steps
