    Plumbing-dielectrical fittings on galv pipe
    Do I need a dielectrical fitting on galvanize pipe to a brass gate valve?

    Yes, if this is a water line, no if its gas.

    It is a 20 year old galv water line and this is third gate valve that I replaced - the homedepot guy said that I need a dielectrical fitting to Correct the corrosion. My little pendalum in side the gate valve has been eaten away!!

    That fitting will prevent electrolysis from corroding your pipes. All dissimilar metals must be isolated from each other in a water system. Dissimilar does not mean totally different. Brass and copper can not touch galvanized, they are dissimilar. Copper and brass can touch each other, they may not be the same but they are similar.

    These experts are absolutely correct. If using the dielectric fittings is too much trouble, you can also use pvc, or stainless steel valves. I have done both.

    I would stay away from the gate valve and use a ballvalve.:D ----Zeke---
