I'm desperate here, I have a husband who has been on pain meds. For 8 years due to a back injury. First he was placed on oxycontin, which he tried to self de-tox twice, causing him to be placed ina psyche ward, and me filing a Restraining order on him. During those two times he was also diagnosed bi-polar, he was having episodes of mania, hallucinating, vomiting, depression, extreme pain, euphoria, living for the high. He became so scary to me and my family that I had to leave. After the second episode he was than placed on methadone, however, his Dr. did a routine drug test and found out that he was using marijuana, therefore, he would not give him any more methodone, at least that's what he tells me. Once again he is experiencing mania, causing a disfunction to the whole family, I'm afraid, for he doesn't sleep, he has been trying to do a lot of projects around the house only to completely tear my house and yard apart, spending large amounts of money, having fits of anger etc... the list goes on. He refuses to get help and this time is a little more irrated than past times, telling me this time he won't be kicked out of his house or go in a psyche ward. I don't know what to do, I don't know if I believe the Dr. would just let him go cold turkey, I don't think I can talk to the Dr. due to HIPPA laws, for this time he did not put me on the list. Please anyone help!

YOu contact the doctor and tell the doctor what the husband is doing, talk to the doctor about forced evaluation for his medical problem.

Lying not to take meds is common and you need to be going with him to the doctor to know what he needs to take and what not to.
