I have a leak from the pipe that leads from the garbage disposal. I replaced the washer and it stopped, but as soon as I used the garbage disposal, it began to leak again. I have checked for any cracks and didn't find any.

Where, exactly, is the leak? Where the pipe curves out of the disposal or where the trap raiser connects to that pipe? Back to you, Tom

Hi msrobind,

Wrap Teflon tape around the p-joint ends in a counter-clockwise direction. Connect the p-joint to the sink's tail pipe and main drainpipe with the compression nuts. Only hand-tighten the nuts. The Teflon tape should seal the connections the rest of the way, good luck.

I would also suggest that you get a helper who can turn on your disposal while you grab it with both hands. The disposal may be loose in the mounting ring, the torque of the motor starting may be giving the entire unit and drain line a twist when it starts up. That connection should not fail just because you started the disposal. Is this PVC or chrome?

PVC is about the easiest and best sealing joint you can have so I strongly suspect that the motor torque is your problem. That PVC joint has no real water pressure to speak of and you should get a good seal with just hand tightening.
