OK I am in grade 8 I find for a nice teacher you have to be nice, patient, and funny
But also a little tough so don't give them like no work give them a good amount but no really hard stuff until later year. Also making little jokes of a person that does something stupid or weird is always funny. And if your school has recess in the summer try and sent them out a little bit early or when its summer and there is like 15 minutes to go take them ouside and let them play until school is over. Don't ever be timid depends which grade there in they will either yell, scream. Or run over you just try and be fun introduce new idea's don't make the same old same old child love to be doing different activitys.
Like once my teacher was doing the same old same old so I suggested to him to make class more funa and while we were dping notes he slipped in a picture of other teachers in the bath suits or old pictures of them..
I hope you can be one of those teachers say you I'm going into mrs.? Calss she is so nice and she I fare with the work and is funny.
I hope it goes well
Zach

Having fun with your students and lessons makes it more enjoyable for you as a teacher as well. As far as what you will teach, that is dependent on what grade you are working with. These days, so many kids are used to a faster pace... teachers, whether they like it or not, have to learn to adapt and keep up at times. Technology has become a very important tool in the classroom. It is finding a balance to educate through text books as needed, but keeping it interesting through other means as well.
Most elementary school teachers cover all subject areas in their classroom... reading, math, science, social studies, health, and writing. Some may "team teach" with another teacher in their grade level. For example, one teacher may teach the reading and writing, while the other one covers science, social studies, and math. Their students will switch classes part way through the day.
Classroom management, dealing with student behavior, is probably one of the biggest areas people underestimate. Most people would be amazed how much teaching time can be lost due to having to deal with unruly children. Sadly, in many areas, it is getting worse... and part of the reason almost half of new teachers leave the profession in the first few years.
Most people think teachers assign a task, students work quietly on it, teacher sits at their desk and grades papers... that is just not reality these days! It can be a challenging profession, but one you will find many rewards in as well.

Kelly,
Your question is kind of broad. Are you going into the classroom just to help out? Are you going to be a teaching assistant or the classroom teacher?
School should be fun, but education and personal/emotional safety are more important. I have taught 3rd grade for 7 years. I never planned to be a strict teacher and if you ask any of my students they don't think I am strict... but I am. I have learned that the stricter I am and the clearer my behavioral/educational expectations are... the more fun the kids and I can have. I love my job. The kids and I joke around all day long... BUT, when it's time to focus and work, the kids know I mean business.
Have clear expectations, a solid behavior plan, and never be afraid to make a mistake in front of the kids. Remember, for 10 months out of the year, you will spend more time with the children during the week then their parents.
