I am trying to find a painting I saw in the louvre back in the late 90's. I think It was in a gallery adjacent to the mona lisa. The content was of a man or woman holding a man who was mortally wounded, but still alive. In the painting there was an angel pulling on a transparent version of the man(presumably his spirit) toward the heavens. The look on the dying mans face was of shear terror. Can anyone help identify this painting.

I have looked on the Internet for the painting about which you inquiring. Haven't found anything yet. Are there any other things that you could add to the description, please? There are virtual tours of the Louvre available. I am on a dial-up connection, so it seems to take me forever to load them.

I remember seeing that painting long ago I really have no idea though. I am trying to remember something about it.

I know Kathe Kollwitz often did work with that subject matter. You may check out some of her work.

I just checked her paintings and it isn't the style I am thinking of.
What I am thinking of was more darker colors and more of a religious tone.

Well, I know it was like a Renaissance or classical piece... Not contemporary.

It would be more likely to be Renaissance since it was near the Mona Lisa. The subject matter reminds me of some of those that Michelangelo did on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
