ceiling fan 3 speed switch replacement.

purchased new one, took off the old bad switch wiring as follows:

L = RED
1 = BLACK
2 = BLUE
4 = BLACK

I rewired EXACTLY as came off the bad switch and as marked on the new switch, plug it in, pull the chain and NOTHING happens on ANY amount of puls.

Sounds like you may have a bad switch, fried controller, or bad motor. To check out if your new switch may be bad do the following:

1. Turn off the power to your fan. You may have to do this at your service box.
2. Disconnect the switch, noting which wire connects to what number terminal on the switch (usuall marked L, 1, 2, & 3 for three speed switches.)
3 Take the black wire coming from your ceiling junction box (this is the "hot" or "feed" wire) and connect it directly to one of the wires leading to your motor or your controller (the black module inside the fan hub.)
4. Turn power back on. The fan should run on one of the three speeds. If it does not run, you may not have power to your fan. Take a VOM and check your hot lead for power.
5. If the fan does run, then you most likely have a bad switch or you inadvertently wired the switch wrong. You can check each of the other two speeds by wiring the black feed wire to each of the other two motor wires, BUT CHECK ONLY ONE WIRE AT A TIME! Do not connect two motor wires directly to the black wire! You'll burn out your controller. And remember to shut the power off to your fan before messing with the black wire. You don't want a shocking experience!
