    Wage garnishment
Hello to everyone my name is Shaun ,

My question has to do with wage garnishment out of Florida from a over due credit card .
The balance is only 1100 dollars but is past dues for about 5 years now . This debt is my fathers debt he is 56 still working and supports my mother totally who is 67 and does not work . My father already had a court hearing almost a year ago where he agreed to pay a set amount each month , he made the payments and has gotten the balance down to what it is now 1100 , during this year my fathers work downsized and he lost almost 20 hours of work a week which is almost 15000 dollars a year lost due to this fact . He’s tried to talk to the bank , written letters to the bank and to the lawyers who represents the bank and they would not deal with him in any way . He’s worked hard his whole life and always paid his bills he just got behind when he had a heart attack a few years back , and then with the hurricanes as well . We haven’t heard from the bank in months , so then when my mother went to visit some family out west just a month ago she became very sick and had to be put in the hospital . My father went out to see her and bring her home . While there the bank froze his account and the only money he has , he has nothing else no savings no retirement nothing just money in his personal account , my father needs meds which the insurance doesn’t cover as well as my mothers meds and medical treatment . My mother is now stuck in Colorado cause my father has nothing to be able to buy a flight home . I am there only real family member that can help money wise at all which is hard for me due to the fact I was just laid off and am taking care of my 7 year old son along , and I do not receive child support so my funds are limited as well I did get him a flight home so he could at least get back to work so there would be no money for him at all . We are not to sure what to do at this point , his electric was shut off so was his water , it is killing me to see him so stressed out and to feel so lost , we know he needs a hearing . But we are not sure what to do from here where to turn what to tell the judge … my father wants to pay and will pay ASAP . It’s only 1100 dollars he had 900 in his account.. I don’t get why it’s so hard to talk to these lawyers. Not sure what else to write here . We just need help . What should he do he’s a good man .

Sorry, but there is not much you can do. The creditor obtained a judgement and held off using it until he reneged on the payment plan. Once he did that they acted to protect their interests. They have a right to do so.

The only suggestion I have is to go to the media with your story.

I have a question about wage garnishment. First off, I have read about Indiana wage garnishment, and do not quite understand. It says that creditors can garnish 25% of your disposable income. What I do not understand is what exactly is my disposable income. If the debt is only in my name, are...
