    Landlord Tenant act Florida
    I signed a years lease in 3/08 in Florida, my husband recently got transferred to Washington State to work and now we need to relocate, are we able to legally break our lease? Thanks

    Hi, there. There have been a couple of questions about this topic lately. Apperantly there was some possible or pending legislation about this in FL, but no was has been able to find where it's passed.

    You'll need to go by what your lease says. In addition to that, you should approach his employer. Does he have a relocation package? Most companies know that people are going to have a hard time breaking leases, etc, and will help absorb costs. If you can get their backing (or without) you may be able to offer your landlord a "buyout". Just make sure you get everything in writing, signed by you and them.

    FL is really landlord friendly, so unfortunately you're pretty much at the landlord's mercy. Have you approached them yet? Hopefully, if you're really willing to help the situation along and work with them, and especially if you offer a lump sum, maybe they'll work with you.
