My 32 year old condo has a Mansfield toilet, a brand I am not familiar with. There are no 'low flow' markings on the tank or bowl but based on the water flow it MUST be a 1.6g flush which does a very poor job. As many people say, it takes 2 flushes so where is the savings? Are the internals of this toilet proprietary to Mansfield or can the fill, flush etc. be replaced with a standard off the shelf like Fluidmaster? I must admit, the flush valve does look a little different than my other American Standard ones, but the ballcock mechanism looks standard. Any help would be appreciated.

You should have no problem replacing the original ballcock,(see image) with a FluidMaster ballcock,(see image) Set the water level as high as you can and check the small jet hole in the bowl. If it feels rough or has minerals built up in it click on back and I'll show you how to improve your flush. Of course that depends upon whether it ever flushed good to start. Good luck Tom

Also, replace flopper with generic "Korky's" unit. Home Depot sells them for about $6.00.
