    Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan RATTLE.
    Hello...

    Yesterday we installed a brand new Hampton Bay ceiling fan. It is a Bay Island 52" Flush Mount Ceiling Fan.

    It's beautiful but after it runs for a few minutes the motor housing begins to rattle... sometimes slightly sometimes enough to wake you up during the night.

    This motor housing simply twists clockwise onto some studs that stick out from the mounting plate. There are no screws to secure it. It looks as though the slots that fit over the studs are simply tapered so as you twist it, it gets tighter.

    I've uploaded two pictures for your viewing to hopefully help with the identification of the problem.

    Thanks for any assistance that can be offered.

    (((OH... one thing I tried just now and it has quieted it down... I folded up a piece of a manilla folder and stuck it between the motor housing and the ceiling and the rattle seems to be gone. Looks pretty bad sticking out up there but at least it will be quiet tonight... hopefully.)))

    It might be a defect. Is taking it back to the store an option?

    See if you can pinpoint exactly what is contacting what to cause the rattle. It could even be wire nuts that have gotten in the way.

    Another good point. It could even be a screw that dropped while you were installing it.

    Nope... it's not a wire, a wire nut, or a screw... it is the metal housing that twists on. It works its way loose and vibrates. Right now I've got a piece of a manilla folder folded up and stuck between the housing and the ceiling on each side of the housing and it's working beautiful. I just need to know if there is a way to secure it without damaging it.

    All of the other ceiling fans that we have in the house have screws that hold the housing to the ceiling mount. This one twists on but won't stay tight...

    It sounds like it may be missing a piece. I don't own this particular model fan so I can't be sure. If there are no screws to attach it, it should twist and lock into place.

    No screws... the slot that fit over the studs simply grows more narrow around the edge so it is supposed to tighten as you turn it. Just doesn't work properly...

    We love the fan though...

    Go to the store, have them open the box of the same model, see if it is the same way. If not, exchange it.
