Toro Mower won't start
When I was mowing my lawn with my Toro model 20018 mower it suddenly stopped working. Then I restarted it after 2 hrs and it stopped working again in 2 minutes. I tried replacing the spark plug, but that did not work either, the mower just started and turned back off in a few minutes. Right now doesn't have a spark. After that I also replaced the ignition coil and still has no spark. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Perhaps a safety sending unit (such as high temp or low oil pressure) has failed and is shutting the engine down. Depending on the age, your key switch may have failed, or the engine governor (if so equipped). Good luck.

If the engine is turning over and you have no spark, chances are that the "kill" wire from the coil is bad.

I have a Toro self propelled and the engine won't start. I installed a new plug, cleaned the air filter, cleaned gas tank and put in new gas mix. I get a good spark, and gas vapor is reaching the cylinder. After years of use I never had a starting problem until this year. I cut the lawn and after 20 minutes it stalled and would not start again even after the work mentioned above was done. The choke is on when I try starting it.

Too help add to mowermans2468 and rasin2004 good advice The ground (stop) wire is possibly grounded. Check to see if the stop wire has rubbed against the flywheel. You will need to remove the air shroud to do so. If wire is touching the flywheel, repair the wire and reroute it.
Also Problem with safety switch's. Either the safety switch is broken or the wires going to it are loose, or have some sort of corrosion on it. Check for good connections.

Two threads here. Lou Ollie
I didn't see new fuel filter installed unless that was part of cleaned the tank. You should use High test especially on high test and the ethanol that's being added in the gas now that's a killer on 2 cycles not to mention all small engines.
I wish you would have posted the model No# engine No# Without knowing the numbers here there should be an air/fuel needle valve at the carb that may need adjusted. Does it start to smoke before it shuts off or not? Not means it needs more fuel fuel adjustment back out. Smokes means fuel adjustment in.

Pull up more on the run cable, before starting. There are two switches connected to the run cable. It may switch one and not the other. This may cause it to die after working properly. The cable looses tension over the years of use.
I wasted a lot of time on my Toro mower trobleshooting, only to figure this simple cause and solution.
