Right clicking My Computer shows garbage for OPEN
Please advise. When I open My Computer, and right click on network drive, where OPEN should be at the top is foreign gibberish. It doesn't work. Nor does attempting to open the network drive by clicking on it: it asks what application I want to use to do this. I scanned with Sophos Antivirus. Please advise.

Wow, new one for me. Let's try the basics:

Delete the broken network drive entry and recreate it.

Do a system restore to back before this started, perhaps even a week or more prior.

I have already removed and recreated the network drive and did a system restore.

Perhaps it's something language related? Is it actual garbage or potentially some foreign lingo? Of there's any chance of that, put up a pic here of what you're seeing, maybe it will jog someone's memory on here.

Ah, OK, it's not ALL garbage, just that one line.

Well, all the entries that are in English are the normal network Properties options, so this line represents an entry from an add-on. Do you remember ever installing a context menu add-on?

At this point, I would try to searching the registry for that character string and try to remove that entry. I was only able to find a few of them:

    Îó û ü

Try searching your registry for the first two characters, maybe the rogue entry will pop up.

Glad it worked, but now I'm a little worried. That key looks virus removal related. I'd consider restarting my computer is SAFE MODE and trying to run every scanner and malware tool you can get your hands on, just to make sure!

Glad you're problem is fixed though, that was a weird one.
