Please please please!. keep that promise! I rescued my dog Niki, 1 day before she was going to the death chamber! She is the sweetest, smartest, most obedient, loveable, protecting, grateful, funny,. every other word I can think of... gift in my life! She looked at me with her big brown sad eyes at the shelter, and said please pick me!
I'm sure if she could talk, she would tell me that spaying her was no big deal! She was asleep, and she was running around happy the next day. I think she would also tell me that all of her fellow pup friends were scared that they had to die, because someone didn't want an abandoned shelter pup! I'm sure she wondered why the Dr. came up and took her little caged friend next to her didn't return, and why she didn't see him walking out with a new family!
YouTube - Abandoned Dogs-Be Good To Me
Just watch the video, and do research on the designer breed that you have, and make sure he doesn't contribute to another litter of unwanted pups. Your pup is here now. Do everything you can to make sure he is well taken care of, and neutered, so another one of those puppies that are so precious, don't have to die! You will receive the love back to you more than you will ever know!

The fact of the matter is that there are 1000's of unwanted dogs that are put to sleep every year because people are careless or greedy and breed their dogs and then have no homes for them. Go to your local animal shelter, look into the eyes of the dogs that are behind those bars, some of them for months before they get adopted, some never seeing the light of day again, never getting adopted, but walking to the room down the hall never to come out again. I've been to the shelter, I will never ever buy a dog from a breeder, pet store or careless pet owner again, allot of my pets (I have 8) are shelter rescues, and all future pets will be shelter rescues. Please think about what you are doing, don't do it because you want a puppy, don't do it because you're angry with the advice you got here, just don't do it, please.
To bring it home, heres a little story about a dog named Boots, he was an 8 year old border collie cross. I first met Boots around 1 year ago, when we went to adopt our 2nd rabbit, Boots had already been in the shelter for around 1 year at that time. He had allot of restrictions, he couldn't be in a home with children, or other pets, otherwise Boots would have come home with me. I sent supplies for Boots, visited Boots, wrote emails asking how he was, was he adopted, was he okay? After 1 1/2 years at the shelter they had to euthanize Boots, he went cage crazy (it happens). Here's a picture of Boots.

God gave you free will, so use it, get your dog fixed like you promised and enjoy him for him, don't add to a growing problem.
Good luck.
My God Alty, that made tears run down my face! :( So sad. That is why I volunteer every yr. to help out with something at the shelters! There doesn't need to be anymore unwanted shelter animals, or ones that are just let loose to fend for themselves because the owners don't want them when they become a bother.

My heart ached while I was writing this. It is my hope that people understand the plight that so many dogs face, through no fault of their own.*edit* How do you know the dogs that are a result from your breeding will not face a life on a chain. From Altys post we see first hand how they can be put to death while waiting for a home. Never breed for greed.
What a puppy knows
Before you click that chain,
I may never be the same.
I'm cute and cuddly,
And sometimes puddly.
Right now I'm small and don't know it all.
Except what my mama told me about my Grandpa.
Here is the mistake his owner did make.
I hope you will not want to do the same, for my sake.
Mistake some might say, he gave that old dog a place to lay
And good food to eat everyday.
Yes mistakes, chained dogs can't greet you at the door,
They can't lie by your feet on the floor.
Their life for you they would trade any day.
How could they, if a chain, is where they must stay.
If that is your intention for me
Just leave me be.
I see a lady that will love me
And tell my grandpa's story.
Dog on a chain
On this chain is my home.
Is this chain where I belong?
My master put me here many years ago.
Just how many, I don't know.
Hes never happy when he visits, I feel so alone.
If it will please him I'll find a new home.
Jumping to greet him only makes him yell.
Sometimes I get a swift kick to the tail.
Where did I fail you, where did I go wrong?
Please tell me, I so want to belong.
Days turn into cold lonely nights.
Nights into days, I'm losing my sight.
My old eyes are yellow and covered in haze.
My muzzle is scattered, with many shades of grays.
But never the less I'd be willing to play
And give you my love the rest of my days.
Open your eyes dear one, awaiting you is a rainbow
Why you had to endure this only your master knows.
Was it to teach?
To many, I can make sure your story will reach.
Now you are free to romp and play
And I believe to come back someday.

I am so glad. One thing you have to realize, those of us on this site that are animal advocates can get a bit bossy, or rude, when we feel that something isn't right. I know it's hard to get advice that you don't necessarily want to hear, I've been there before, but even if it's sometimes not said as nicely as it could be, the intention is good, it really is.
I've been to the shelter many times, in fact we just went recently to adopt our 4th bunny (yes, I'm the crazy bunny lady :) ) While we were there I couldn't help but go into the dog area, even though I can't adopt another dog (the legal limit where I live is 2 per household, and I already have two). The sadness of their eyes, some of them that I personally know have been there for many months and are on death watch. I pass by the puppies, I know they'll be adopted, they're puppies, cute, little and very desirable, and sadly out of every 3 puppies sold, I know that at least one of them will end up back at the shelter some time in it's life. I look at the older dogs, some of them still come up to me when I walk by, wag their tail and get a hopeful look in their eyes. I pat them, tell them it's going to be okay, and then move on with my heart breaking. Then there are the dogs that no longer come to greet anyone, they don't wag their tail, they don't make eye contact, they just lay there, they know their days are numbered, they also know that people come and go, and they stay behind. It breaks my heart every time, and yet I feel compelled to visit the dog room every time we go to the shelter. It's a good lesson, a good dose of reality, even though it hurts. I go home and give my two lucky dogs a big hug, do they know how much I love them, do they know how lucky they are? One of my dogs is a shelter rescue, to see him now you'd never know he was once a scrawny, scared, beaten little dog, he's happy, and loved, and that's all we can hope for.
I'm so glad that you've decided to get your dog neutered, so very glad. If you want, I can PM you some links to shelters in your area, you can do some research of your own. Then you'll understand better how come we feel the way we do, and who knows, maybe you'll decide to adopt a friend for you dog:). Take care, and I'd love to see a picture of your new dog, would you be willing to post one?:)

My little mutt dog, Missy, was an abused dog. When we first got her from a friend, she wouldn't even look at us. Her former owners( before the people we got her from) had kept her in a filthy TV box, never let the kids play with her, made her fight with two chows for food and water, and threw her out in the yard with those two uncut male chows and she's just a bit bigger (taller) than a cocker spaniel. We've had her for going on 4 years and she's still my little swiss miss. She used to get carsick on 15 minute car rides and now she loves car rides. Her favorite treat is hot dogs, and her favorite toys are sock babies. She's the best and sweetest dog anyone could ask for. Now instead of being terrified of us, she loves to play fight, and all I have to do is tell her 'thats enough' and she knows its time to settle down. Instead of trying to steal food from your plate, she'll guard it from the other animals. It's a shame she had to live a year and a half of her life without love. I wouldn't trade her for all the money in the world.

I bet she loves you extra special for getting her out of that situation! *High Five* My little girl was dumped at the shelter because she barked. Her previous owner left her outside all day and night, and didn't pay any attention to her. I would bark too! She was at the shelter for so long, she was on the "chamber" list. I brought her home, and she has been the best companion and most well behaved and easy to teach dog, that I could have ever asked for! She only barks if to protect me or her territory. I wouldn't give her up for the world! :)

You remember the Benji movies? That's Missy. All I have to do is whisper 'sock baby' and she perks up.

A sock baby is just that... a bunch of old stained, holey, mismatched socks stuffed into one sock and tied off. I once made one that had a head, arms and legs and she loved it to death.

Oh Sherice, he is adorable, what a sweetheart.
As for neutering, try you local spay clinic (they also do neuters), or the SPCA.
I'll try and do a bit of research, find a place near you, but I don't know Michigan very well, actually not at all, I'm in Canada.
Give that scruffy little cutie a big hug from me, he's a keeper. :)
