My landlord left without any warning 1yr ago I have been living here rent free for 1yr. 3 other tenants that live above me in this 3 family house, we chip in together to pay for light and gas so they won't turn it off. How do I find out if the house in pre-foreclosure or foreclosure stages? What are the process and steps the bank takes when tenants are still living in the house? How long I have left living here? What can I do if we haven't been contacted by no one yet about our living situations?

Go to your local courthouse and check the deed. It should list the owners, their current address and any lien holders which would tell you the bank.

I'm assuming that your landlord used to collect the rent in person. And since he left you have no one to pay the rent to. I hope you are putting the rent into an escrow account. Even though no one is collecting,you stillowe the rent. And its very possible someone may come after the tenants and you WILL owe all the back rent.

Once you determine the status, I would try getting together with the other tenants and see if you can buy the building.

This is a strange one, I hope you have been saving that money up, to help move when you have to.

But you can go to the court house and see the status of who still owes it, and if there is a mortgage, and what the status is.

But yes buying the building from the mortgage company may make sense
