Go to your local courthouse and check the deed. It should list the owners, their current address and any lien holders which would tell you the bank.

I'm assuming that your landlord used to collect the rent in person. And since he left you have no one to pay the rent to. I hope you are putting the rent into an escrow account. Even though no one is collecting,you stillowe the rent. And its very possible someone may come after the tenants and you WILL owe all the back rent.

Once you determine the status, I would try getting together with the other tenants and see if you can buy the building.

This is a strange one, I hope you have been saving that money up, to help move when you have to.

But you can go to the court house and see the status of who still owes it, and if there is a mortgage, and what the status is.

But yes buying the building from the mortgage company may make sense
