I want to live with my dad and I'm 16 yrs old.
I am 16 yrs old and I want to live with my dad. I live in California and he lives in Nevada. I do not live with my mom. I live with my guardian. But, my mom is in charge of me. My dad still has custody over me as well as my mom does. I want to move in with my dad and she says "NO". My dad is a convicted felon, out of prison and he has been out for 3 yrs and off parole. What can happen if I just leave and not ask my mom? Can anything happen to my dad, will he get in trouble with the law?

I haven't been with my dad for about 3 or 4yrs and I really want to get to know him better and spend some more time with him. I think I have a choice of who I want to live with when I'm 16 yrs old, but I'm not sure what to do. Reply. THANK YOU, Angel.V

You should move in with your dad there is really nothing your mom can do except go to court and try to fight it, but you have a choice of who you want to live with.

Up and moving without permission is a BAD idea. I'm guessing that there are custody papers stating that you are to live with your guardian. If this is true and you just up and move then not only can you be charged as a runaway but your father can also be charged. And given that he already has a record I wouldn't be willing to risk losing him again. Ask him if he will go to court and fight for you, you are old enough to testify as to whom you would like to live with but because you are still a minor it is up to the judge to make the final decision.
