98 Honda Civic LX (D16Y7 engine TEC Dist.)
Problem:
Engine runs but misfires on Cyl. 2 & 4. Fault Codes P1399, Misfire #2, Misfire #4.
Car was driven @ 45 mile in this condition, no power, engine shudder, CEL on for @ 30
Seconds then flashing. Tach. Working. Problem developed on morning start-up on 5/18
Testing Performed:
Drop Test - Cyl #1 engine dies, Cyl #2 no change, Cyl #3 engine dies, Cyl#4 very
Minor change. Good Spark at all cylinders.
K-Test - (4.88Vdc) at MAP connector.
Coil Test - Ohmed out within Specs.
ICM Pwr. Test - 12Vdc on Blk/Yel wire. Continuity on Blk/Yel, Yel/Grn, Blu back to
Connector. All three wire checked open to ground.
Parts Replaced:
Plugs - Very minor improvement engine still misfiring CEL flashing after 30 sec
Rotor - Very minor improvement engine still misfiring CEL Flashing after 30 sec
Cap - Very minor improvement engine still misfiring CEL Flashes after 30 sec
ICM - Engine runs rougher still misfiring CEL flashing after 30 sec
Question:
Could Timing Belt have jumped. It was replaced about a month and 1,000 miles ago?
On Compression Stroke what is the relationship between reluctor and pick-up at TDC?
I would appreciate any help with this problem. I'd really like to be sure all alternatives have been checked before replacing ECM. For lack of knowing what else, I plan to replace the Coil.
