Running Romex 12/2 in crawl space
    Hello,

Due to lack of access in a part of my attic, I need run a cable for a bathroom outlet (GFCI) via the crawlspace. Can I just staple the ordinary Romex to the sides of the studs or do I need to run the Romex inside a conduit?

The crawlspace gets damp/wet during rainy months but since the Romex would be running along the joists it will never touch the bare ground.

I get different answers depending on who I ask.
    I'm in Northern California.

    Thanks
    -kd

Your best bet is to contact the City/County housing inspector usually the location where you get permits to do such work can also answer.

I would say you would be safe just securing it to the studs.

If you're going to run 12/2, why not use Romex that's rated for outdoor/wet areas? It's the gray colored 12/2.
