Depends what kind of material you use. But in any case, you cannot just lay new gas pipe on the ground. Surface-mounted gas line installations have to be installed the way so it cannot be easily compromised. It will have to be mounted to a solid surface, on uni-struts, and secured with uni-strut clamps. Also, if exposed to elements, and less than 6" above the ground, the pipe will have to be Skotch Kote pipe, a factory coated pipe with all fittings primed and wrapped with appropriate size of tape, designed just for that purpose. I highly recommend you use Skotch Kote pipe even if higher above ground than 6". The work should be done by a licensed contractor and you will have to have the work inspected by City Inspector who will make sure new installation is safe and up to Code

    Hope that explains

Yeah, I'd probably run the gas pipe along the house at a minimum of 12" off the ground...attached to the house. You will need to paint the pipe with a rust proof paint and the work will require a permit, testing and inspection by your local plumbing/gas inspector. Scotch kote pipe may be good here, but if not readily available, painting is usually good enough at 12" above ground.

What is the BTU's demand for the stove ? How big is your main gas line entering house from gas meter ? ( right side of the meter)... How far is the stove from the meter ? Also, how many gas fixtures in the house ?

Usually, there is a "room" to attach new gas line into existing gas system in the house. Maybe, it is your situation
