Shower drain fix - what to do after I remove the lead oakum?
We had a leak in the bathroom and discovered it is the shower drain. I went to replace it and have discovered it is an old drain that doesn't look like it will be fixed with a normal fix. On top of the fact that I don't have access underneath and want to avoid pulling up the pan. I know I need to remove the lead & oakum but after that what do? Do I try to remove the copper ring around the outside on the shower pan and install a new one?

    Image is attached below.

    Thank you for any advice!

I think I agree with the recommendation you received at Terry Love plumbing. This is probably beyond the capabilities of the DIY.

    However,

How do you know that? It is not enough to know that the drain is leaking, you must know where and why before you can fix it.

That much I will agree with.

Unless the leak is occurring around the drain flange, that is not possible.

Only if that is where the leak is occurring.
