I would like to have another child, however I am afraid because my cousin just had a baby and she was not allowed any pain meds or a C section because of medical issues. What would a obgyn or midwife do in my case if medical reasons wouldn't allow me to have pain meds or a c section?

You would have to deal with the pain, if there was a medical reason, you could not take the pain medication.

Yes, there are alternative medications. I use Stadol combined with phenergan on my laboring patients. I prefer that to Nubain. With that said it can only be given prior to the epidural. It should not be given once you have an epidural. It also should not be used once a patient is 8 or more centimeters as it suppresses the baby's respiratory drive and increases the risk of having to resuscitate the baby.
