Would depend on which state is holding the person, and perhaps also on how much of the sentence is left to be served.

When you're on parole, you have a release date that CAN'T be changed.. When you're on PROBATION, you DON'T have a release date. You have a suspended sentence hanging over your head. If you violate, even on the LAST day of probation, you can be made to serve the ENTIRE suspended sentence.
