This sounds like the cold water feed. And the reason the copper pipe's hot is called convection and is normal for heaters.Quote:

A few questions. Gas or electric? What's the control box or the thermostats set at? When you open a hotwater tap does the hot water pipe get hot Back to you. TomQuote:

Answer Tom's questions RJO, and then check that the cold water tubing is feeding into the INLET of the tank... sounds like the tank got piped in reverse... maybe?
