I was pulled over and got a ticket for failing to yield at yield sign. I am thinking to go to the court. Here is what happened.I was going to turn right to the main road from the side road. There is a yield sign there. I stopped my car and looked my left. There was a black car which was about at least 70-80 miles away from me, by the way it was snowing on the day. The speed limit at that road was 60miles. I was thinking it should be a safe distance so I turned right and merged into the main street. Not expected that black car was the police car. Of course I was pulled over and he was pissed off saying that he had to use his brake to stop the car for not hitting me (by the way, I think he was driving more than 60 miles /hr at that time), I was fined for not having my ownership document with me and failing to yield. Also he found there was a damage area at my front bumper and he asked me what happened, I told him it was damaged by my friend and I was going to fix it, he said I should report it which I didn't. Anyway that is what happened. Should go to the court and fight for the ticket? I am afraid that the judge would ask me to fix the bumper which would cost 1000 $ (I don't have the money now)? I need help. Thanks

Pay it... you had a typo as his car couldn't be 60-70 miles away... and if you meant feet... you did commit a failure to yield. Even if you meant meters or yards.

Doubtful that you would win this case based on what you wrote.

Did the officer tell you what agency it would be to which you should report the damaged bumper? I would think it might be your friend's duty to report an accident, but not yours. But I suspect the officer was concerned about a duty to report an accident, not a (probably non-existent) requirement that all damage be fixed.

And you might want to look up the Ontario traffic code to see if it requires all bumpers to be in mint condition. I doubt that the judge can require you to fix it unless it affects vehicle safety. The judge isn't going to order you to fix it merely for cosmetic reasons.

If you can see something 70-80 miles away you have extraordinary vision.

I don't know how it works in Ontario, but generally if you show up to protest the ticket, you can have it reduced so it won't affect your license or lower the fine. But there is no chance you will get off without some penalty.

In Ontario if safety is an issue due to damage to a vehicle - for example, the "bumper" is damaged and the turn signal/headlight do not function - yes, you can be fined for driving an unsafe vehicle.

I question the distance at which the OP saw the Police car; therefore, I question the "bumper" description.

Wonder why the Police are picking on the OP? Maybe they aren't and he turned when it wasn't safe.

From what you wrote, you are guilty and you need to just pay the fine and get it over
