Sump pit odor and low volume constant running water
    Hello,

I am a relatively new home owner and things have been great up until now. Recently down by the laundry I noticed a sewer-like odor and also noticed the sound of lightly running water. I moved over the metal lid and looked down into the sump pit and noticed a larger pipe, maybe 4-5" in diameter, that is draining water into the pit from the side (looking directly down the sump pit, the pipe is perpendicular to it). This is where the constant running water sound is coming from, and I assume the smell as well, as neither were there before about a week ago. We have not had any particularly large amount of rain lately, and none in the past 3 or 4 days, but the sound has been there consistently for about a week now. I was wondering what this pipe even is, and if it is something I need to be concerned about, especially because of the sewer smell. Any and all help is much appreciated.

Can you track this large pipe back? Where does it go from the sump pit? This could be overflow from a french drain. As for the smell you can flush the pit out with bleach and replace the gasket on the lid if it's bad, Good luck, Tom

Thank you Tom for you quick response. A few updates to the situation. I added a few pictures to hopefully help me figure this out a little more in detail. The rusted pipe on the right is the one that had water running out of it the other day. I cannot trace the pipe anywhere unfortunately because it is under ground. The smell still remains but the water stopped running, I noticed that the other night when I posted this we were doing laundry, could these two be connected somehow. Any info again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Do the laundry again and see if the water drains out of the pipe now. Let me know the results. Good luck, Tom
