Collection Agency refuses $75 a month on $800+
Got two letters from a hospital bill. Was trying to get my insurance company to help pay but they refused. Meanwhile the hospital sent the bills to collection. So I called the automatic payment line to propose a payment plan (that way, I didn't have to deal with someone on the phone), and proposed $75 a month payment to pay off the debt.
Big shock, they refused. They want a minimum of $236! Which, I'm guessing, is about 25% of what I owe. What can I do being here in Nebraska? What are my rights? What if I send them $75, and they cash it? Do I have them over the barrel, if even just slightly? What can I do? If I talk to them on the phone, what can I tell them? I want to pay it off, but there is no way I can pay it off at $236 a month. Not with a car payment, rent, and everything else. HELP!!
