Kohler K3402 flapper replacement 83064 doesn't work

I replaced my defective K3402 flapper with # 83064 but it doesn't sit properly and seal unless I manually move it. Any suggestions?

Is the ring still connected to your flapper? If so, cut the ring off and try again.
