My mum was 27yrs when I was born.8yrs ago she was twice as old as I shall be in 5yrs time.how old am I? Please I have tried solving it but failed the question.though it was corrected but not very understood. Please show the workings

m=s+27..............(1)
8 years ago means we have to subtract 8 from their present ages
m-8=s-8
then mother was twice as old as son will be in 5 means we have add 5 in the age of the son 8 years ago
(m-8)=2((s-8)+5)
m-8=2s-16+10
m-8=2s-6
m=2s-6+8
m=2s+2...........(2)

s-2s=2-27
-s=-25
Multiply by (-1) both sides
-s(-1)=-25(-1)
s=25

I think the child is 9 yrs. I can't explain how I got to that answer but will give it a go.
I worked mum out to be 36 now, so 8 yrs ago she would have been 28, which would make the child 14 in 5 yrs time hence the child is 9 now.

You did read the answer which is posted right above your guess, right?
