    Replacing PVC with metal
I have a drain pipe coming from the main floor of the house from the kitchen sink and garbage disposal that is PVC going into a silver/grey metal pipe in the basement floor. I have to replace the connection from the PVC to the metal pipe. Can I use Pipe Dope or pipe cement when I screw in the 1 1/2' PVC male adapter into the metal pipe?

I assume the silver/gray pipe is galvanized iron with female threads Correct?

I would use Teflon Tape on the threads and PVC primer and cement on the PVC connection. Good luck, Tom

Yes it is galvanized but the threads inside are not real good. Thanks for your help

Yep, follow Toms advice. Teflon tape on plastic threads. Just clean the galve female threads up as best you can beforehand. Maybe even best to go as far as getting a thread cleaning tap/die.
