Hi there, we are about to rebuild our patio. Can anyone tell me how far apart one should place their 4x4 posts. I have a good grasp about the rest, but no info on support posts.

Generally, your beam span (distance between the center of each post) depends on the size of the header beam you plan to use. Also, your local building codes will have specific requirements for footing size (the concrete support underneath each post) that is also determined by your span(s). Here's a standard for most Southern California cities:Quote:

There are a lot of variables that go into this. How high do you plan on having this deck ? What size lumber will you be using ? What is the Width ? What is the length ?
