My in sink erator won't shut off.
I have a Pro 17 in sink erator and when we take the plug out the unit won't shut off. We have to unplug it to shut it off. I called a plumber and he said it sounds like it needs a new switch. Who can I contact to fix this problem?

How old is your unit? According to the PDF for this model, it has a 7 year parts and in home service warranty. Yes, batch type disposers can be frustrating as this is a fairly common problem. Is the outlet where your unit is plugged in controlled by a switch? If so, use the switch. If not, and the unit operates well, you could install a wall switch and switch loop the power side. That way, a wall switch will control the unit.

How is it switched on and off? If it's just a wall switch you should be able to replace that yourself by turning off the breaker and replacing the switch. Just make sure to buy at least a 20 amp switch. You probably have too small a switch in it now is why it is bad now. Putting in too small a switch will cause the contacts to weld together which is what has happened. The switch only has two wires and all you need is a screwdriver to replace it. Every homeowner should be able to do this simple repair. DrTom4444

I believe this is one where the stopper activates the switch.

Pro 17 are batch operated not continuous flow. Put the stuff in and insert the stopper. Switch is in a collar around the mounting ring.
