Need help determining the right size backup generator/inverter
I am looking to buy a backup generator (actually an inverter) for my house in case of a power outage. I am considering a Yamaha EF2000iS, but before I buy it I want to make sure it will be strong enough to meet my needs. My plan is to run the following items in case of an outage: REFRIGERATOR (KitchenAid KBFS25E) with a rating of 7.1 amps at 115 volts; 2 LIGHTS at 60 watts each; LAPTOP COMPUTER (Sony VAIO). I believe the generator/invertor can handle the load since it can rated 1600 watts continuous and peak load of 2000 watts. Before I buy it, however, I'd like to hear from an expert or someone with experience to confirm. The only issue is I'm not sure what is the startup wattage specification for the refrigerator. Thank you in advance for your help

The issue as you sated is the starting current needed for the frig. Thou it will be for a very short time, refrigeration units have a high starting current, can be 6 to 10 times the running current.

So, I hesitate to confirm this 2 KVA inverter will serve the frig reliably.

Can you check with the manufacturer or dealer?

May be good to get the starting current specs of the frig.
