I have a 2000 windstar ans when I start it chadders and slipps,but once I get going in 3rd it fine. Does it sound like something simple.It has 80.000 miles.

Drain and clean pan, clean magnet, replace filter (if possible), and refill with Mercon V fluid. If this doesn't solve the problem, take it to the dealer.
