I have a couple of rusty metal gas cans, I would like to "bring them back to life" and use them. One has rust on the bottom and a few rust spots inside. I took steel wool to the bottom and managed to remove some but not all. The second one has solid rust inside and on the bottom (possible too far gone?). What can I do (if anything) to remove the rust inside and on the bottom? Thanks.

Rust metal gas cans should be dealt with in the safest way possible in recycling; you SHOULD NOT BE trying to bring them back to normal. Why would you want do that ? Is this a project ?

They are gone, dude, gone and will return to dust eventually.
