Used two different experts advice on the valve settings. Still acts like too much compression. Only way to get engine to spin is adjust valves to 0 clearance. Still won't start.

OK not sure what the other 2 told you so let me start at the beginning. Engine model would help.
Bring to top dead center , then 1/4 inch past.
Set valves between .004-.006

When you see 18.5 or most that have .5 in them there inteks.
Good to know, I have several and never noticed. Glad you are handling many of the engine questions. We have had several good guys come and go in the past. I'm the home repair guy and have been filling in when I knew the answers.
