Here's the story:
A couple years ago at the restaurant I was working at I cut my finger, needed stitches and went to the ER. I explained to the hospital that it was a work related injury and should be covered by worker's comp. The restaurant was owned by my parent's at the time. My parent's and I quickly discussed that they have to take care of it through worker's comp, which they pay for yearly anyway. Haven't talked about it since.

Last year my credit score was in the low 700's. I have always been careful with my credit. This year I look up my credit score to find it has dropped to 598. It showed that I had outstanding medical bills that have affected my credit score. So come to find out my parent's never followed through with worker's comp.

Here's the question:
What do I do?!

You could report them, perhaps to your state's department of labor. It would depend on which agency is responsible for enforcing the requirements governing workers' compensation in your state.

And, as to your credit score, you might contact the credit reporting agency and request the opportunity to explain the issue. I don't know if it will increase your credit score, but at the very least a potential issuer of credit would know that you didn't simply fail to pay a bill.

If your parents' insurer failed to pay the bill, I would find out why not.

Finally, I would contact the hospital and determine why you were not made aware that this bill was unpaid.

1. did you file a official accident report with your work place and also send a copy to the state.
2. did you after you got copies of the bills for the medical treatment, send and provide your work place with the bills.
3. no they did not have to get the insurance to pay, they could have just written a check
4. legally you are obligated to pay medical bills if the work place ( or insurance) does not pay.
*** so what did you do or answer or ask your work place when month after month after month they keep sending you bills. What did you say to them when they called you about paying the bill ? *** I have owed more doctors than you can shake a stick out, never have I ever seen any report a bill without sending you dozens of bills, and calling a few times.

But at this point you pay the bill, work out a agreement for them to report it paid in full to the credit reporting agency when you do.

You ask your work place why they never paid, and sue them if they will not pay you for those bills.
** once you sue them, insurance company may get involved.

** the only issue I see is that you are a family member, and in some cases family may or may not be covered

1. I didn't file an official report. I was 16 at the time and I guess unaware that I needed to.
2. I did not receive bills ever. I believe this is because I was living with my parents at the time and that may be where the bills were mailed. I moved out shortly after.

I am not stupid. I pay all of my bills on time and sometimes ahead of time. I never received a bill.

I don't want to report them... I think I would rather discuss this with them first and see what went wrong. They are absolutely broke though and couldn't afford to pay me.
