Why would a 1998 honda accord lx 4 cylinder crank and almost start but go back to cranking and then choke because I have tried to start the car a couple of times and all I hear is it cranking almost starting and then choke and the lights will dim when it chokes and then I will smell some smoke.

Replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil:
