I have a Ariens 1640 that will creep backwards at idle and leavers are misaligned, about 4" difference, left leaver is ahead of the right.Is there an adjustment I can make? Thanks for your time and troubles,Ron

There should be an ajustment bolt a the base of both levers to adjust and get the levers aligned. But the creeping reward is likely caused by worn seals in the control valves.
