My kenmore 665.1603 or 665.1703 will start working when I select normal wash. It will fill with water and then sit idle. Sometimes you can hear a humm but that's it. I opened the door and I can see water at the bottom but no sign of the sprayers working. The spray arms are not jammed but I feel the water level is low and does not reach the heating element. I tried to raise the float with a spoon to simulate a full tub but that did not help. I also filled the tub with hot water using a watering can but that did not help neither. Any ideas what might be going on?

The timer is bad. Replace it.
