    A Manual would be useful.
To get you running, Most engines need to have #1 cylinder on top dead center on compression stroke.
TDC can be found on Harmonic Balancer or something on the end of the crankshaft. Or through the #1 cylinder plug hole.
Compression stroke is every other revolution. And can be determined by seeing both valves closed, or check when air is compressed at plug hole.
With distributor in have someone crank for a second and take note of the distributor rotation. You will need the firing order, and can be determined by the valves as well.. The the plug wires start at #1 cylinder and follows the firing order in the direction of distributor rotation.
You don't "have" to determine Compression stroke, Try on TDC and if that doesn't work, cross each pair of wires on the distributor and it will be the other TDC.
You have a TDC on Compression and Exhaust stroke.

The manual and timing light will help with the fine tuning, not sure if this has a oild pump driven by the distributor shaft. TXgreasemonkey has an excellent Stiky on All areas of Hondas. This site has just changed and I will see if I can find them.

If you are stuck in the middle of no where, with no manual, the method I described will work.
