Are you sure it's the oil light and not the battery light?

Try removing the oil pressure sending unit and blowing any sludge out. Afterwards, start using full-synthetic SAE 5W-30 engine oil (e.g. Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum). It may safely start cleaning your engine.

A flickering oil light is sometimes an indication that sludge is forming. Take it seriously.
