    If the CEL comes on and goes off after 2 seconds, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil:

    TxGreaseMonkey is the man... 99.9% is the ICM or Coil. It would be probably best to simply replace the whole distibutor(get a good one from wreckage $100)very easy job. Let us know if this resolves your starting problem. If it does and you love your Civic replace your spark plug wires with high performance wires. Cheers!

    Does it mainly do it when it's hot outside? I had this problem with 88 Accord. Turned out it's a fault in the main relay. I've read of some people purchasing a new one from Honda and still having the same problem, so it's a fault in manufacturing. The best and cheapest fix is to repair the one you have.
